Intro to figure drawing: structure & anatomy
Mondays, 6:00-9:00 p.m. // oct 20 - nov 24 (6 weeks)
This course is a great transitional step for students of figure drawing, who are looking to move into longer sessions with the model to understand form.
In the course, students will learn the major bones and muscle groups of the human figure.
Each class will begin with the instructor demonstrating and lecturing on a specific area of the body, going over bones, muscles, origins and insertions, as well as canons of proportions and methods for measuring.
Form analogies and planar conceptualizations will also be covered to give students tools to interpret the surface morphology of the figure.
Figure painting: color study
wednesdays 6:00 - 9:00 P.m. // oct 15 - nov 19 (6 weeks)
This class is part of an introduction to figure painting, and picks up where “the art of the start” left off with limited color, and continues into an exciting exploration of FULL color. This can also be taken as a stand alone class on color theory as it relates to the human figure.
Basic figure drawing experience is recommended but not required. Experience working with oils however is strongly encouraged.
In this class, you will be introduced to a full prismatic palette, and become well acquainted with several different pigments and how they interact. Just like the previous class, this session will emphasize practicing many starts aimed at capturing the color of the light, as well as the colors of the model and its environment.
By doing multiple studies under different lighting conditions, you will unlock the color potential in your paintings to not just tell a story about the colors of the figure, but of the light itself. Students will also be encouraged to do a variety of color chart exercises for homework to supplement in-class investigations.
Portrait Painting

Private Lessons
Open availability // in-person & online
Private lessons help you to hone the skills you want to develop under the guidance of an experienced professional.
Many of my private students are former art school graduates, or find themselves returning to art after raising a family or developing a career. They may have spent a few years taking classes and workshops, but they’re eager to get serious about their craft, but aren’t necessarily looking to make art a career or willing to enter a 4 year program. With private lessons, I’m able to tailor a unique curriculum to you and your goals, while providing the focused environment that you wont find at a community art center or in group classes.
